The Ogoja Masquerade dance In this little commentary, we are going to look at the History of Ogoja in Cross River State with emphasis on Yala Local Government Area. But first, let’s throw some light on the Ogoja of today. OGOJA consists of many tribes, which includes: Ishibori (This village has different clans like Uhmuria, Ikaptang, Ikajor, Ishinyema, Ikariku, Imerakorm) and Igoli as the central town. Ogoja residents resist settlement of Fulani migrants

SESAN 12 MAY 2018 Mudiaga Affe, Calabar Residents of Ogoja in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, have put up stiff resistance over an alleged settlement plan of some Fulani migrants that had come from the northern part of the country. Two trucks loaded with suspected Fulani migrants had on Monday arrived the Garki area of Ogoja with police and soldier escorts on alleged relocation plan. Southern City News learnt on Friday that residents of the Garki area, along Barracks Road in Ogoja, who are mainly Hausa settlers were the first to reject the Fulani migrants. An eyewitness, Mr. Ignatius Odey, said the new migrants were rejected by some Hausa settlers in Garki area following their large number. He said, “They came in on Monday evening in company with two armed escorts, a soldier and a policeman. House moves to establish Federal University, Ogoja

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed for second reading a bill seeking to establish Federal University of Technology, Ogaja. The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Jarigbe Agom (Cross River- PDP) who led the debate, said when passed into law, the bill would assist in extending infrastructure in existing universities. House of Representatives According to him, there is need to establish more universities, given the high number of students seeking admission into higher institutions. The lawmaker, representing Ogoja /Yala Federal Constituency of Cross River, added that the bill would also bring about development and youth engagement in the area. He also stressed the need to convert some identified first generation polytechnics to universities to bridge the existing gap and increase the admission space available.
